Supporting children and families after critical illness

Admission to a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit can be physically and emotionally challenging for children and their families. Intensive Care treatment can impact the life of a child in many ways. While some young children may fully recover, others may struggle with physical, social, emotional, behavioural, cognitive and communication skills and development, which may impact on their schooling, friendships, and family functioning by the time they start school.

PICOLO is committed to scientific work to improve the recovery of all children and their families after intensive care admission.
